Class Update | 1MA

Class 1MA has had a very busy and productive start to Term 3!

After last term’s successful introduction to science, focusing on making observations with their senses through a term-long experiment, we have seemlessly shifted into Geography this term. We have already begun exploring the features of buildings, while continuing our science lessons with a focus on living things.

In literacy and numeracy, the students have shown impressive progress. They have excelled in spelling and writing checks, and we spent the first two weeks of this term discussing duration and time, looking at calendars, and measuring how long things take. We’ve just started our next unit on counting and grouping, and the students are enjoying our maths games using dice.

To help students settle in after playtime, we’ve incorporated plenty of relaxation and meditation time, during which most students engage in calming activities like colouring and drawing. Their artistic flair is evident in the wonderful illustrations and creative work they’ve produced.

For art lessons this term, the students created wonderful creatures, demonstrating their understanding of texture and expression. They also made expressive “crazy cats” using different lines.

In writing, the students are studying the structure of narrative writing by learning how to retell stories. We read “Boy + Bot” and “The Hungry Caterpillar,” and the students created their own robots and caterpillars to better understand the story elements involved.

Additionally, the students participated in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander events and activities in Term 2, around NAIDOC Week and Reconciliation Week. They showed a wonderful understanding of the importance of these occasions, and our class worked together to create our own Acknowledgement of Country, which we now use regularly at events such as Liturgies and Assemblies.

The students also had an amazing time on Feast Day last term, where we went to the park and made cupcakes in the afternoon. It was a delightful day filled with fun and creativity.
