Library Resource Centre
Our Library Resource Centre is an intrinsic part of St Thomas More School.
Offering an inclusive range of resources supporting teaching and learning throughout all year levels, our Library is a vital part of our school. Time spent in our Library Resource Centre can support students development of early literacy and language skills, introducing them to new and exciting literature, and provide a gateway to knowledge, culture and other learning opportunities.
More than just a library
Each class in our school has a library lesson once a week, where they share and explore literature together, engaging in activities that build effective knowledge developing our students into lifelong learners.
An environment for students to be empowered
Our Librarian creates an environment that encourages and empowers our students to be successful and confident in their own abilities; incorporating into lessons skills that are integral to classroom success, such as:
- fine motor skills
- following procedures and explicit instructions
- team building, and
- social skills
Library lessons allow students to be in a lesson where it is not directed by their teachers, but with their teacher present. It promotes relationship growth, trust, and respect outside of a classroom which then flows through the school as a whole.
