Looking for Book Week Costume Ideas?
The theme for Book Week 2025 is “Book an Adventure.” If your child would like to use the theme for book week as inspiration for their costume, you could consider costumes inspired by popular adventure stories like:
- Harry Potter
- Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz
- Alice in Wonderland
Adventurous characters like:
- Wally from “Where’s Wally?”
- Pirates
- Astronauts
Or fun characters like:
- Matilda
- The Cat in the Hat
- Burglar Bill
There are no right or wrong costumes, the aim is for the children to have fun and celebrate their love of books!

The Awards
For the CBCA Book of the Year Awards, the 2025 awards utilized 15 expert judges to assess the 730 entries received. In addition to the expert judges, The Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) also offers a “Shadow Judging” program where 2,000 children around the country act as young judges for specific categories of the awards.
These titles are compiled into categories and only 36 make the shortlists. These entries represent a wide range of children’s literature by Australian authors and illustrators and are categorized to reflect different age groups and reading abilities.
Congratulations to all CBCA Shortlist Authors, Illustrators and Publishers.
We have the following shortlists at St Thomas More School
